ACCUPLACER Testing

ACCUPLACER is a college placement test that assists NSU in evaluating incoming students in writing (English) and math skills for placement decisions. Students with an ACT/SAT Math sub-score below 19/460 or an ACT/SAT English sub-score below 18/450 may take placement exams. Passing the exams allows registration in NSU’s college-level English and/or Math course(s) instead of developmental course(s). Cost for the exam is $15 for Math or English or $25 for both.

The fee and a valid, current photo ID are required for ACCUPLACER testing. Registration is available via the Credit Connection link above.

*Acceptable forms of payment include: exact cash, check, money order, or debit/credit card.

Northwestern State University offers a unique scholarship opportunity for students with strong leadership potential and provides them with a year-long leadership development program. The President’s Leadership Program is designed to promote active involvement in the campus community and to provide opportunities for students to build leadership skills together. Students selected for the program will take a leadership course together and engage in a series of developmental leadership activities.

Want to learn more about the President’s Leadership Program and accelerate your connection with the campus community?

Join us for the PLP Emerging Leaders Day, from 11:00am - 1:00pm.  Activities will include an experiential activities session, group interview, and the opportunity to meet current student leaders. There’s no better way to build relationships with other new students and to enhance your potential for success at Northwestern State and beyond.

Academic Departments

Northwestern State offers over fifty degree programs with 100 percent national accreditation in all eligible programs. Faculty and staff members from our outstanding academic departments will be available to answer questions about your intended major or area of interest.

Campus Involvement

There is something for everyone! Northwestern State has more than 100 organizations to appeal to the student’s interests. There are more than a dozen Greek organizations along with service clubs and organizations related to academic programs, honor societies, community service, and religious beliefs.

Northwestern State hosts 14 NCAA Division I intercollegiate championship caliber sport teams. We are also proud of the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band with over 300 members. A special part of the band is the Demon Dazzlers danceline. The co-ed cheerleading squad and Purple Pizzazz pom-pon line keep Demon fans on their feet. The Northwestern State spirit groups offer scholarships to their members.

The School of Creative and Performing Arts presents an outstanding schedule of plays, concerts, recitals, and exhibits. All students regardless of major are eligible to audition for NSU Bands, the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony, and other performing ensembles.

From I-49, head east on LA 6 (University Parkway) toward Natchitoches. Turn right at Northwestern’s main gates (Central Avenue). Magale Recital Hall and A. A. Fredericks Auditorium are the first academic buildings on your right.
